EOAF Helps Provide Food 4 Thought
Food 4 Thought is a preprimary school outside Stanford, South Africa in Hermanus. Our Summer 2008 team visited this community to rebuild a church. Food 4 Thought acted as our home base while we worked, and the more time we spent with the incredible staff and inspiring children, the more we knew we had to do something for them too.
F4T’s leadership team had a vision for a new jungle gym that incorporated green space and a garden to provide both nutritional food for the children and jobs for the community. They showed us their plan, and once the roof was put on the church we departed, leaving behind a giant check to fund construction. Now, the children play on a safe jungle gym, eat healthy snacks, and the teachers have a facility they can be proud of.
Our history with Food 4 Thought doesn’t stop there, though. Our Summer 2009 team revisited the school to put in some tough work clearing out the heaps of trash surrounding it and replacing them with gardens. We didn’t leave them empty handed, though, and left behind the funding to renovate the currently unusable parts of their building for an office and arts and crafts room.
