$1 Million Opportunity

The Eyes on Africa Foundation is in the final round of a facebook competition giving competition.  That means we have the chance to win $1 Million among other cash prizes!

How can you help?

#1: LEARN!  Read about our “Big Idea” to replicate Etafeni in a new South African community, here and on facebook starting Jan 8.

#3: HELP!  There are a few ways to help.

The easy (still helpful) way:

Every day, return to the Eyes on Africa Foundation page on facebook, and click the “invite a friend” button.  You’re allowed 30 invites per day, and they make a huge difference!  Be sure to add a message letting your friends know that this is something you believe in.  You can even direct them to our website to read more!

The painful (but most helpful) way:

Message all your friends.  All of them.  If you’re willing - and we see the biggest increase in vote count when you do - please log on to your facebook and click on your inbox.  Then, press compose message and paste the following message (or some version of your own which is sure to include the link to vote!) into the text field:

Hi Guys!  The Eyes on Africa Foundation made it to the Top 100 of more than 500,000 in a facebook giving competition, and now has the chance to win $1 Million. EOAF is a student-led organization making a real difference in Africa, and all you have to do to help is click to vote for them.  You need to become a fan first, and then you just have to click VOTE!  Please spread the word to all your friends!

Now the worst part.  (Consider it a labor of love!)  To send it to all your friends you need to click on the “TO” box and press the letters “aa” on your keyboard.  Now, one-by-one, click on all your “aa” first named friends (being sure to skip the last names for later – or by all means send it to everyone more than once!).  When you have no more first named “aa” friends, type “ab” and add all your “ab” friends.  Then, “ac”, “ad”, “ae” …. “ba”, “bb”, …. “zz”!  We will love you forever, and, if you email Jeff, he’ll send you a free shirt thanking you for your help!  If each person who votes were to send this to all their friends, and pester at least two other people to do the same, we could win this!

Other ways to spread the word:

Send an email to all your family and friends – or your entire Contact List (including the link).

Set up a laptop in a common room, the cafeteria, a busy hallway, anywhere where there are a lot of people, and recruit voters.

We also encourage you to: Talk about it constantly. Put up posters/signs.  Make flyers.  Log-in to your friend’s facebooks and vote for them.  Facebook/Gchat/I-M people constantly until they vote just because they don’t want to hear it anymore.  Be creative – it’s for $1 Million… this is no time for being shy.
